How long your clients take to pay

A Getting paid report: how many days your clients typically take to pay, how many pay by the due date, and who owes you what now and how late. On every plan.

Sample business
The Getting paid report — clients typically pay in 7 days, from all six paid invoices, and 4 of 5 paid by their due date

You know roughly who pays at once and who has to be chased, but until now nothing said it. Every invoice has the day it went out and the day the money came in. Now SMG Tools puts the two together.

How fast you get paid. Reports → Getting paid leads with one figure — clients typically pay in 9 days — and how many were paid by their due date. Then month by month, client by client with the slowest first, and every invoice behind the figures, with a CSV. Typically is the middle of the invoices’ days, so one invoice that took four months does not move it; the report names the slow ones instead.

Counted honestly. From the first time an invoice was sent to the day it was paid in full, by each payment’s own date — a cheque you record a week late counts on the day it arrived. Deposits and automatic agreement charges are left out, because your client did not choose when to pay them. With fewer than five paid invoices, it says so rather than showing a figure.

Who owes you now, and how late. The same report’s second half is everything you are owed today: not yet due, 1–30, 31–60, 61–90 and over 90 days late, who owes the most, and every open invoice at what is left to pay.

Where you work. Your dashboard says how fast clients pay under Outstanding — which now counts every open invoice, not only the ten oldest. Each client’s page says how they pay and what they owe, which is what tells you whose next job wants a deposit. And on Professional you can ask the assistant: how long do my clients take to pay?, who owes me the most?, what’s more than 60 days late?
