What did your last job really make? A free job profit calculator

Put in what your last job brought in and what it cost, and see what it made, its margin, what your own hour came to, and what to charge for the next one — free, with nothing you type leaving the page.

Most contractors know what they charged for their last job. Fewer know what they kept. The new free calculator at smgtools.com/calculators/last-job-profit asks for what the job was charged before sales tax, the crew’s hours and what an hour of their time costs you, your own hours, materials, subcontractors and other job costs. It shows what the job cost, line by line with how each was worked out, what it made — or lost — its margin and markup, and what your own time came to an hour once the profit is added.

Then it answers the question that matters for the next one: at the margin you aim for, 25% to start, what the same job should be priced at, and how far that is from what you charged.

It counts a job the way SMG Tools does — what the job itself took, with no share of the truck or the office — so the figure is the one you would see inside the product, and the page says what the margin still has to pay for. Copy a link to these figures puts them in a link you can send to whoever you are talking to about the job; the figures stay in the link and are never sent to us. It works in your browser, with no sign-in.

It is first on the free calculators, beside the materials calculators. Inside SMG Tools the same arithmetic runs on every job as it goes, from its own time, receipts and parts — see which kinds of work make money.
