Work at your own place — bays, drop-offs and a price before the work

Work done at your own shop, studio or bay: booked with no address, only while a bay or chair is free, dropped off with a ready-by date, and the day by space.

Sample business
The Day Board by space: Bench 1 holding a well pump kept until it is picked up, ready Thursday, and Bench 2 with Sam Okafor's softener valve rebuild from one to three.

Not all work happens at the customer’s. A bike on the stand, a mower on the bench, a client in the chair — until now SMG Tools asked for their address, planned a drive to it and texted them that somebody was on the way. Work at our place is a new tool, on every plan, that says where the work is done.

Where and in what. On Job types, set a kind of work at your place and tick the spaces it can use — your bays, rooms, chairs or benches, named on the tool’s Spaces tab. Its visits are at your address: nobody sets off, no on-my-way or running-behind text is sent, and the weather never marks them.

Booked with no address. Online, a service at your place asks the customer for no address and shows yours instead. A time is offered only when somebody can do it and one of its spaces is free, for the visit and the turnover after it — now a setting on every job type, for every business. Customers on their own link and callers to your phone assistant are offered the same times.

Dropped off and picked up. For work the customer leaves with you, they book when to bring it in and are told when it will be ready, counted on the days and hours you are open. The Day Board lists what is waiting for its work; whoever finishes marks it ready for pickup, and the customer is told once by text or email. An item can keep its bay until it is collected — a car on a lift — and every booking sees the bay as taken.

A price before the work. For repairs, a kind of work can ask for a yes first: the quote is a change order on the job, and the customer can now answer No thanks as well as accept. A yes counts the ready-by from that day; a no leaves the item ready to collect, unrepaired, with the diagnostic fee on a draft invoice.

The day by space. The Day Board has a By space view beside the lanes per person: a lane per bay with its visits and what is kept there, so you can see which bench is free at two and move work between them.

A business that does not add the tool has every visit at the customer’s, exactly as before. Removing it deletes nothing.
