Referring another business
Invite another business to SMG Tools and earn credit on your own subscription when they become a paying customer.
This is about referring another business to SMG Tools, which is a different thing from sending your clients a link to your own page. Invite somebody you know in the trade, and when they become a paying subscriber you get credit against your own bill.
Send an invitation
Open Profile → Referrals and enter the email address of the business you want to invite, one address at a time. They get an invitation to try the product.
Two limits:
- An email address can only be referred once, across the whole platform. Whoever got there first gets the credit.
- Up to 100 referrals per person, which is well past anybody’s real address book and exists to stop the feature being used as a mailing list.
An address that already has an SMG Tools account cannot be referred, and neither can your own.
Earn credit when they subscribe
When somebody you referred becomes a paying subscriber, you earn $5 in credit, applied to your business’s subscription automatically and taken off its next bill. You do not claim it or ask for it. The credit is applied once a day, so it lands within a day of their subscribing, and an email tells you when it has.
The credit arrives when they subscribe, not when they sign up — a trial that never converts earns nothing, which is the honest way round.
Two things decide whether a referral counts. They need to sign up with the address you invited, because that address is how the referral finds them. And it is the business they own that has to subscribe; joining somebody else’s team does not count.
Your referrals page shows where each one has got to: Invited, Signed Up once they have signed up and confirmed that address, Subscribed once their business pays, and Credited once your $5 is applied.
Who can send and who can earn
Anyone can send a referral — everyone on your team, and somebody on a free trial. Only paying subscribers receive credits, because a credit against a bill you are not paying has nothing to apply to. The credit goes on the business’s subscription, whoever on the team sent the invitation.
If somebody you referred subscribes while your business is still on a trial, their referral waits as Subscribed, and the credit is applied within a day of your business starting to pay.
